Learns first introductory form. Learns three basic kicks, balance, and punching. WhiteBeginning student. Learns first Palgwe form (hyung or pattern). Continues with other basic kicks. Begins to focus techniques better. The form introduced here is rather difficult, and first half with stances is required. Focus of training is basic kicks, punches, and stances. YellowMore of an advanced white belt rank, the student puts the first Palgwe form together in a complex series of moves that allows understanding of stances and hand techniques. Student begins concept of blind techniques such as spinning hands and spinning crescent kicks. Students do non-contact sparring in preparation for intermediate class. OrangeFirst level intermediate. Second Palgwe form memorized. From this level forward, a new form (hyung) will be introduced at every belt level. Jumping kicks are now introduced. Full gear sparring techniques in ring with control and very light contact allowed. NO facial contact allowed. Students as orange belts should have working knowledge of two forms, basic kicks, and understand balance and control of kicks. GreenIntermediate level martial artist. This level is approximately one year of regular attendance and training. Students begin Intermediate to advanced techniques such as pop up kicks. The spin hook kick is being developed at this level, even though it was introduced at orange belt. BlueUpper Intermediate level. With this level, advanced technique kicks are introduced. The concept of jumping crescent and jump back kicks are taught. This level form (Palgwe 4) has a rather advanced stance sequence that will help the student learn transition. Students are allowed light facial contact at this rank. Sparring becomes more natural, and control element is essential. PurpleFirst Advanced Rank. Control of kicks and sparring an essential element at this level. Many students, especially those who choose not to practice or struggle, stay at this rank until proficient. This is the first advanced rank, and stances are very important. Brown Jr.Advanced. From this level forward, lots of flying kicks, both in and out of the ring, are taught. The forms flow better as a group. Student will learn rather advanced kicking combinations. Technically challenging, but a fun rank. Brown Sr.Upper advanced. Once again, a continuation of the emphasis on basics. Palgwe 7 form is a great tournament level kata, and is exciting to learn. RedAt this level, black belt is but a few months away. Student must be diligent in training both in form and exercise. Red belts attend black belt classes, and are expected to instruct under supervision when in the school. In many schools, this rank is considered a junior or provisional blackbelt. |
